Shepherds Retreat
From field to sanctuary, with a wood burning stove for a shepherds hut
This beautiful glamping retreat is situated on what was once arable land. Today, it has been transformed into Shepherds Retreat, situated on 13 acres of woodland, meadow, and parkland, restored to create a haven for wildlife and a peaceful setting for guests. Sue and Reg have worked tirelessly to create and nurture natural habitats and have been rewarded with ever-increasing biodiversity – everything from bats to badgers!
Every hut is built by Reg, whose background in bespoke boat building brings craftsmanship and character to each cabin. Inside, Sue adds comfort and warmth with beautiful furnishings and hand-sewn touches.
Wood Burning Stove for a Shepherd’s Hut
Reg has used The Hobbit Stove for over 15 years in narrowboats, garden cabins and now in shepherds’ huts. Reg says, “I have noticed over the years how these beautiful little stoves have been upgraded with air flow systems and updated little touches here and there, though still retaining outstanding quality. I can spot one a mile away. It says something when you start to build a hut or a narrowboat and the first thought is, where does The Hobbit go?”
Thoughtful Spaces
Shepherds Retreat has been designed to bring people closer together and to nature. A woodland trail winds its way to a fire pit for evenings under the stars, while our up-cycled silo will soon be turned into a cosy reading room and book exchange. To keep things peaceful, cars are parked away from the huts, with luggage delivered by all- terrain vehicle. For walkers and cyclists, there’s secure cycle storage and a heated ‘Boot Box’.
Weston Walk
A private path linking Shepherds Retreat directly to Skendleby Village and its pub. It’s a nod to our family name, but also a gift to guests who want a countryside stroll from the huts into village life. Weston walk joins the public footpath, where walkers can visit other Lincolnshire Wolds villages or seek out more picturesque views in this beautiful part of England.
No story about Shepherds Retreat would be complete without Bibz, their lovely dog and Chief of Staff. Whether she’s exploring the meadows, climbing on hay bales, riding on trailers or greeting new arrivals, she’s as much a part of Shepherds Retreat as Sue and Reg.
