Description
The Hobbit SE stove (DEFRA Approved) is a small multi fuel stove suitable if you live in a smoke control zone.
The Hobbit DEFRA Approved Small Stove is suitable for a wide range of applications and was designed by us especially to fit the small spaces and fireplaces where other stoves just will not fit. Our aim was to design and build a quality small stove with all of the essential features and attributes of top rated efficient large stoves. If you live in an urban setting and have a small fireplace and would like to install a small multi fuel stove then ‘The Hobbit SE ‘ could be the answer.
The Standard colour for the stove and door is Black, other colours are available. Available “stove options” can be added when ordering the stove.
Buying this stove was the best thing we’ve done for our house. Now we can’t imagine life without it! Although it’s small in size, there’s nothing small about the amount of heat it gives out. It burns efficiently, leaves very little ash to empty, and the size of its window gives a lovely view of the fire. At first my other half was sceptical that a smaller stove would heat our high-ceilinged (3m) living room (3.8m x 4.3m), but those doubts are long gone! Highly recommended.
We purchased this through the U.S. branch for our tiny house. The stove is perfect for the rainy Pacific Northwest, it provides just the right amount of radiant heat. The stove is easy to use and clean, and the large glass door provides a wonderful ambiance to the room. The best decision we made for our tiny home.
Easy to install and light ( just follow the instructions) , solidly built and practical . It gives out a great amount of heat for a room about 3 x4 x 2.5 metres. Everyone loves it ! I would highly recommend buying one and will buy another one ( or two) when I move home. We’ve had it about two and a half years.
Looking for your dealer in the USA. THANK YOU, WILLIAM

Can you burn coal in both models?
yes indeed
Do you know the amount of fine particles and carbon monoxide that´s produced? In Germany they changed the limits. Now it´s only 40mg/m³ (0,04g/m3) for fine particles and max. 125mg/m³ (0,125g/m³) for CO.

Hello,
I’m considering this stove as an option for a school bus mobile home (skoolie, they’re often called here in the US) and I have some questions:
1. How heavy is this stove?
2. Is there a difference in features, weight, or materials between the Hobbit and Hobbit SE?
3. Could the surrounding distance (side and back) from combustible material be shortened with use of a properly installed heat shield?
4. Could the top be used as a surface to place a pan for cooking or heating water?
Thank you!
1. 50kg
2. No
3. Yes. 200mm with shielding or new heat shield option on the stove
4. Yes indeed. Suggest exiting from the rear to liberate all of the top for cooking
Hey you really have great stoves.
I have two questions.
Is a direct air flow possible and do you ship to Germany?
Best regards

Hello Mark
Can you tell me how much the freight is to Sydney Australia please?
about £175
How often do you need to refill the stove to keep burning? Burning a dry fir birch mix?
Hi Siobahn!
It really depends on how fast you’re burning your fuel and how much fuel you decide to place in your stove. You’d probably need to refill the stove every couple of hours.
Thanks for your enquiry!

Can this be installed in a camper
Hi John!
Yes! The Hobbit SE certainly can be installed in a camper!

can The black trim on the stainless cooktop be painted to match the color of the stove?
Hi Bea!
Yes! The trim on the stainless steel cooktop can be painted to match whatever colour you decide to have your stove.
Thanks for your interest in our little stove!

Hi there, is this Eco friendly and compatible with the 2022 environmental requirements?
Hi Martyn!
The current Hobbit SE is certainly an efficient, eco-friendly stove, particularly if you burn briquettes as a source of fuel. However, the 2022 EcoDesign version won’t be available until later this year as we have had to delay its launch due to the situation with Covid-19.
Thanks for your understanding and thanks for your interest in our little stove!

Hey, I’m interested in using this in our home and have been advised that it is only really for canal boats or cabins. I live in a terraced house and our front room is ~36 cubic meters. According to online calculators we only need a 2.5-3 kw stove to heat that room given average insulation. The hobbit SE is 4k so I thought it would be a good option. Can you advise if it would be suitable.
Cheers, Tams
Hi Tamsin!
Our Hobbit stove is specifically designed to be installed in small household fireplaces, but it’s also suitable for any small space such as a canal boat or a cabin too, so I’m not sure who gave you this advice?
Even though the stove is 4kw it would still work great in that sized room! This is because you can run the stove at varying outputs depending on how much fuel you decide to place in your stove, and how much air you allow into the firebox.
If you have any other questions please feel free to contact us and we’ll do our best to help!

Hi,
I have a hobbit SE and looking to install.
What is the minimum distance allowed back and sides from the hearth (tile, 25mm calcium silicate, 10mm air gap) In the manual it is recommended 100mm for air circulation and maintenance, however in the solitec pdf it says only 45mm.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Joe
Hi Joe!
Sorry but we’re not quite sure what you mean, it might be better if you give us a call and explain this in person so that we can assist you with this.
Many thanks,
Alex
Thanks Alex, will do 🙂
No worries Joe, I’m glad that I could sort those questions out for you! Have a great week! 🙂
Many thanks,
Alex
Can this be hooked up to a natural gas line? thanks!
Hi Sandy!
I’m afraid the Hobbit SE cannot be hooked up to a natural line, but thank you for your interest in our little stove! We hope you have a great weekend.
Many thanks,
Alex
Hi there
Do you actually fit the stoves aswell (or could this be arranged)? I live in a motorhome but would rather replace the current trauma heater in there to save buying has any more.
I’m in Devon and see there is a branch in Newton Abbot, could this install?
Hi Andrew,
I’m afraid we don’t carry out any installations ourselves, you’d be best off finding an installer that’s based close to you. You can locate your nearest installers by entering your postcode into the dealer page on our website here.
Many thanks,
Alex
Good day Mark
I am very much interested in this stove, it seems to be designed with both efficency and cosyness in mind.
In my case it would be convenient if the door hinges were on the left hand side, looking at the front of the stove. Would this be an option?
Kin regards
Wolf
Hi Wolf,
Thank you very much for your comment! Our little Hobbit stove is indeed both efficient and cosy! I’m afraid our stove cannot be configured to have the hinges on the left hand side though, they can only be on the right.
Best regards,
Alex
I’ve had one of these little stoves for over 18 months now and can attest that the Hobbit SE is is great! Don’t be deterred by its ‘compact’, believing it to be inefficient or ineffective. Burns very efficiently and leaves my back reception room ‘toasty’. Very easy to clean and looks a delight in it’s equally compact fireplace. Very, very happy with mine. Highly Recommended!
Hi Scott,
That’s fantastic to hear! Thank you so much for your feedback and for all of your kind words about our little stove! We’re so glad to hear that you’re so happy with our tiny wood burner and that you’re staying toasty warm over Winter! If you get a free moment it would great if you could email over a photo of your stove in your fireplace, as we would love to feature this on our website!
Thanks again Scott, and I hope you have an amazing Christmas!
Best wishes,
Alex
