Christmas Stovetop Potpourri

Hygee season has surrounded us as we find ourselves in the familiar winter months once again. The favoured seasons change from person to person, but at Salamander Stoves we find comfort and peace in the colder months. Evenings are spent snuggled up by the fire with cosy pyjamas and fluffy socks, watching films and eating soul-warming meals. Here at Salamander, we are embracing the Christmas spirit; the Christmas tree and fairy lights are now officially up in our garden office, and we have made a Christmas stovetop potpourri to fill the office with a beautiful aroma.

The little Hobbit Stove in our office has been keeping us toasty warm as we continue to send out Hobbit’s to all those that are feeling the chill. There are all sorts of delicious smells that are associated with Christmas; the deep scent of a Christmas tree, the warmth of mulled wine, and the spicy aromas of cinnamon and nutmeg. If you are lucky to spend time at home more during the Christmas season, having a delightful smelling home is a must. Making a Christmas stovetop potpourri is so simple and easy to make and it will fill your home with the most heavenly fragrance. Plus, it is all natural too, so no breathing in harsh chemicals from candles, and most of the ingredients you may have stored in your cupboard!

What you will need:

  • A heat-resistant glass cooking pot, or just a normal cooking pot – we used this one
  • Water
  • Christmas tree sprigs
  • Rosemary sprigs
  • Orange slices
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Star anise
  • Cloves

Steps:

  • Light your Hobbit or Little Range Cook Stove
  • Place your pot on the stovetop and fill 3/4 with cold water
  • Add in all of your ingredients, making sure they are all emmersed in the water
  • Then just let it simmer away! Make sure to not let it over boil, if you find it is getting to hot, you can move to the right side of your Hobbit Stove which is the slightly cooler side of the stovetop, or to the middle of the cooktop on your Little Range

This will last around 5 days before the ingredients will need replacing. You can also replace the water every day or so to keep the smell fresh. Why not try a different selection of ingredients next time, for example:

  • Bay leaves
  • Nutmeg
  • Cranberries
  • Lemon
  • Apple
  • Pine cones
