Whether you own a narrowboat, wide beam, or Dutch barge, living on a canal boat can bring a lot of fun and freedom into your life, and they’re definitely one of the most alternative ways to live off-grid! Having one of our small multi-fuel stoves installed in your boat will keep you toasty warm on the water during any colder months, and it even enables you to fire up a hot drink on your stove top whilst you chug along! The flue kits below contain everything you need to fit the Hobbit stove or Little Range Cook Stove into a canal boat. We have designed three different canal boat flue kits in accordance with the BS:8511:2010 advisory standard for fitting stoves into boats, and our flue kits can also maintain the traditional appearance of the flue kit above and below deck with our high quality, black powder coated parts.
Canal Boat Flue Kit 1 uses a short section of single wall flue inside the cabin before converting into twin wall flue pipe. The twin wall flue exits the cabin through the void in the roof and connects to a removable top section above the deck flange and collar. If at any point your single wall flue pipe is closer than 300mm to a combustible surface, then you will need to shield the wall. On the other hand, Canal Boat Flue Kit 2 utilises twin wall flue for the whole system, and this flue pipe only needs to be placed 50mm from any combustible surfaces. Due to this flue kit being fully insulated, the flue gases are kept warmer, and therefore the draw should be improved. Canal Boat Flue Kit 3 is also a fully insulated flue system, but incorporates an offset to shift the flue when you cannot have a straight system.
All of our Canal Boat Flue Kits include a top section that can be easily removed for passing under low bridges, and a closure cap ensuring no debris/water goes down the chimney when the top section is removed.
You can see how other people have installed our small multi-fuel stove into the design of their canal boats by taking a look through some of our case studies. We have a really helpful guide on how to install your Hobbit Stove and Flue kit into your boat here.
Please note: It can be difficult to rigidly stick to the guidelines outlined in Part J Building Regulations when installing any stove into non-domestic settings, such as sheds, cabins, shepherds' huts, garden rooms, tiny homes, boats and other vehicles. Your installer will need to apply a degree of sensible flexibility when installing a stove into these settings.
Our flue kits have not been specifically designed to conform with Part J or other HETAS regulations. Before purchasing a flue kit, please confirm with your installer that they are happy to proceed with the parts listed.
