OFF GRID LIVING – A helpful ‘How to’ guide to living off the grid.
Welcome to Off grid living where we will try to bring you information for attempting to live life off the grid. How to survive without mains electricity or gas and without mains water. How to grow your own food. This blog post will therefore be an ever expanding one that will deal with the following topics.
1. HEATING – Installing a wood stove.
2. WATER – Hot water systems. Rain water harvesting.
3. POWER – Installing a solar power system.
4. FOOD – Growing and preserving your own food.
To help us bring you accurate off grid living advice and demonstrate the installation of the various off grid technology and appliances we will show you first hand how each are installed and work. This will give you the chance to disconnect from the grid but not compromise your life style. To help us do this we are converting an old goat shed into an off-grid self sufficient eco ‘kitchen’ lodge.
A small shed that will act as a showcase for the various solid fuel, solar and green energy products that are available online for the would be ‘off-gridder’. We are calling it the off grid tiny wood stove kitchen as it will be also be a base for us to cook up great tasting food on the wood stove and new tiny wood stove range. Who knows we may be able to open up a little Hobbit sized bistro serving only food which has been cooked on the tiny wood stoves.

- HEATING
Once you have a cabin, a shed or whatever place it is the first thing you will need to do if you are to exist after the sun has gone down is heating. Along with eating this will be your primary concern. As you cannot just plug in an electric heater you need to consider the heating options. 1. Bottled gas heating 2. Solid fuel heating. The first option is expensive and does not give you the opportunity to source fuel which potentially could cost you nothing. The second option is the best one but rather than just simply installing a stove you need it to perform more off grid tasks such as providing heat for cooking and heating water.
