I designed my little Hobbit stove with the owners of small fireplaces in mind. After spending years fitting stoves I was forever confronted by attractive small fireplaces but no attractive and efficient small stove that would fit. More often than not my builder friend was needed to rip out beautiful traditional features from small fireplaces in order to accommodate the size of the stove.
Open fires are notoriously inefficient with the majority of the heat going straight up the chimney. Whereas wood stoves are really efficient and extract the maximum amount of heat from the fuel and radiating it through the room. You may need to install a chimney liner for a safe and effective draw so suggest contacting an installer to come out for a site visit.
