What Flue Parts are Included?
The van flue kit included in this special offer is a 100mm/4″ twin wall stainless steel insulated kit manufactured by Midtherm. The flue kit has been designed to suit most types of vehicles, and the overall installed height is approximately 2 metres.

We have designed the flue kit in twin wall insulated pipe, which allows the flue to be placed just 50mm from combustibles, making it great for small spaces. The kit includes a Silicone Flashing and Fixing Kit, which is ideal for van roofs as it is made from malleable material. It creates a weatherproof seal around the flue pipe to ensure a secure setup. The 300mm piece of flue pipe and rain cap cowl can be removed and replaced with the closure cap when you are on the move, to avoid any mishaps going under low bridges!

All flue parts are listed below:

FAQ’s
Can you install a log burner in a campervan?
Yes, a wood burning stove can be safely installed in a van provided the correct flue system, heat shielding and clearances are used. A dedicated van stove flue kit makes installation easier by including the essential components required for a small stove installation. The installation can be performed by a professional, or you can do it yourself. Here is a helpful DIY guide on installing a stove in a van.

What size log burner is best for a van?
A compact or mini log burner, like the Hobbit SE, is ideal as it provides sufficient heat without taking up too much space.

Is a multi fuel stove better for van life?
Yes, multi-fuel stoves offer flexibility, allowing you to burn wood or smokeless fuels depending on availability and preference.

Product Documents

  • What’s the difference between a DEFRA approved stove and an Eco Design stove?

Eco Design stoves have to comply with stricter limits on the amount of particulates and gases that get released by the stove. Both The Hobbit Stove and Hobbit SE are Eco Design stoves.

  • What’s the difference between the Hobbit Stove and the Hobbit SE?

Both stoves have exactly the same measurements, and they offer the same features. There are just a few key differencebetween the two:
    1. The SE stands for Smoke Exempt, and it is the DEFRA exempt model of our stove that can be used to burn wood in Smoke Control Areas here in the UK. You can find out if you live in one of these areas by contacting your local council.
    2. The SE has a small, constant supply of air going into the firebox of the stove. This is to comply with regulations, and it just means that the SE is slightly harder to shut down overnight, as it will burn the fuel slightly quicker. We do not recommend shutting the stove down for prolonged periods of time, as this will lead to more soot or tarry deposits forming in the flue.
    3. The SE can be installed into a 5″ or a 6″ chimney liner, whereas the standard stove can only operate with a 6″ liner. This mainly applies to household chimney installations here in the UK. If you reside in an older property which has a narrow chimney, then you may find that you need to purchase the SE model so that you can use a 5″ liner.
  • What are the hearth requirements?

You will need to place your Hobbit on a non-combustible hearth with a minimum of 12mm depth, extending 225mm from the front of the stove and 150mm each side.

  • How much does the stove weigh?

The Hobbit stove and the Hobbit SE both weigh 50kg, or 110lbs.

  • Do I need an AD cowl?

If you will be parked up near trees or other buildings, then there might not be a consistent flow of air across the top of your flue. On stormy days you might experience down draught problems, where the flue draws momentarily stops. This can potentially lead to smoke being blown back into the stove. To eliminate this, the rain cap which is included in this van flue kit, can be swapped for an anti-down draught cowl.

  • Do I need the Direct Air Intake System?

The direct air intake system can be a great option to have installed on your van log burner. Depending on how small your van is, what can sometimes happen is a lack of air getting to the stove. This system allows outside primary air to be piped directly into the firebox of your stove, therefore improving the draw of your stove and flue system, promoting more efficient burning, as well as a higher room temperature.
